Costly mistakes to avoid in a job career
Not interviewing enough
When you search for a job and get rejected for first few applications it is human tendency to go back to its cocoon and feel safe there and not trying anymore.
But when you delay your decision to move forward in your career in fear of rejection you push yourself back monetarily and professionally, it happened with me when I started interviewing after 2 years in first job and got rejected and i stayed for 1.5 year in same job for same pity salary, instead I could have more courage to keep trying.
Taking every senior person seriously
In our career we meet many bosses and colleagues who are studs and influence you in many ways, and you again fit in that cocoon mindset.
I can’t even recall the amount of stupid advices I got in my 10+ years of journey including “You are being paid for this job, why you are questioning about appraisals”, “Try innovative stuff at your own time, here things happen same way”, “Don’t question the senior management or project leader” “Onsite is to earn money”
Its good to give respect but keep exploring around your peers ideas.
Using public techs without understanding them
If you are building something for a client and it involves some kind of server side stuff like aws connection or gcp, never ever do it on public github instead buy a private account or go for free alternatives bitbucket, because you never know when you push some sensitive info like aws private keys in absence of a reviewer, hackers continuously scan the repos for these to do illegal activities like bitcoin mining, It might cost you your life’s savings, beware when you work with clouds or a tech you don’t understand fully.
Fearing your boss
Never fear your boss’s wraith like if he will ruin your career or something, no one has that power except yourself, always stand tall on your feet, respect the people , don’t be arrogant but also never shy to answer people who try to stomp on you to show their superiority,
You must always return home your justified dignity. I recall a boss, who immediately shout on a junior subordinate whenever he was asked of something, don’t let these people get over your head.
